EMBRACING DYSLEXIA with Vee Bird, APC, MDG

Dyslexia support and Assessments

With the right support Dyslexia can be understood, embraced and accommodated.

Understanding makes the difference

Dyslexia involves a group of processing difficulties that affect the acquisition of reading, reading fluency and spelling skills. It can present itself a little differently for everybody- no two individuals who have dyslexia demonstrate exactly the same challenges or strengths!

Dyslexia Assessment and Literacy Intervention

Are you looking to understand why your child…

makes errors when reading?

finds spelling difficult?

changes the letter order in words?

confuses letter orientation?

takes time to process information?

forgets lists and instructions?

finds it hard to concentrate?

has issues with time and organisation?

has difficulty with blending/isolating letter sounds?

*not all of the above need to be present for a dyslexia diagnosis.

…yet, they have lots of strengths.

Support Starts with Understanding.

I have found that, prior to assessment, children with literacy difficulties are often quite anxious and can’t understand why it is hard for them to keep up with their peers in reading and spelling. Even the child who comprehends texts well can feel frustrated with their spelling and fluency difficulties. This is why a diagnosis is so important and why a Positive Dyslexia/ Dyslexic Thinking approach is essential.
