Understanding Is the First Step to Support

Diagnostic Dyslexia Assessment (ages 8 yrs +) in person

This is a full dyslexia assessment that involves the examination of your child’s cognitive and attainment strengths and challenges. Before the testing process, background information is gathered via questionnaires, and afterwards, a fully comprehensive and detailed report is written. The report includes supportive recommendations for your child’s school to put into effect and gives you suggestions for next steps.

Literacy Difficulties Assessment (ages 6 yrs +) in person

This attainment testing process highlights your child’s strengths and challenges within reading, writing and spelling. A brief report includes supportive recommendations for your child’s school to implement and provides suggestions for next steps.

A request can be made for an additional test that involves the study of an individual’s phonological awareness ability.

Turning Worries into Confidence

Structured Literacy Intervention – in person

This involves an 8- or 10-week Structured Intervention in which Dyslexia Action’s Literacy Programme (DALP; Cochrane and Binns, 2021) is implemented. This Programme is highly successful in improving a child’s confidence in their literacy ability by focusing on skills involved in phonemic awareness, punctuation and syntax, suffixing and coding attack. The strengthening of reading comprehension is also a key focus in the sessions and children learn to reflect on their learning strategies (metacognition) which helps them to work more independently across the curriculum at school. Importantly, children have fun while they learn as learner routines and games are built into each lesson.

Helping Your Child Thrive

Spelling Intervention – in person

This involves the study of the meaning of high frequency words to enable learners to spell them accurately and apply these rules to related vocabulary. Studying the interrelationships between the etymology, morphology and phonology of words is essential for improving spelling in the English language. This is because English has an opaque orthography in which letters and sounds do not always match up. In fact, only around 50% of words in the English language can be phonetically mapped.

Your child’s writing will be analysed and a mini-report written for the creation of teaching/learning points.

Dyslexia Advice – via Zoom

Should you wish to learn about dyslexia, an informal chat and dyslexia presentation can be carried out online.
