Condensed Timeline
My Journey To Love Learning Literacy
A love of psychology and a joy in teaching children to succeed in their education led me on this journey. You can read my timeline here.

2003
I graduated from a BA Fine Art degree with Honours. This helps me to discuss a love of art, craft and drawing with the children/young people I assess- many of whom have strong artistic skills alongside dyslexia!

2010
I completed a Professional Certificate in Education (PGCE) with a specialism in English as an Additional Language (EAL). I spent the next ten years teaching Nursery, Reception, KS1 and KS2.

2019
I was extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to shadow an Educational Psychologist and put into practice a range of strategies to help children in schools. This developed my understanding of children’s learning needs and the range of difficulties that many face daily.

2021
I found my true calling by beginning my journey as a Specialist Dyslexia Teacher with Dyslexia Action. I was delighted to find out how effective Dyslexia Action’s Literacy Programme (Cochrane & Binns, 2021) was in teaching children to improve their reading and spelling skills. I have continued to teach by implementing this as a 1:1 Structured Literacy Intervention and seeing children progress is wonderful!

2024
I graduated from the Level 7 Diploma in Specialist Assessment and Teaching for Literacy-Related Difficulties with Dyslexia Action. I was awarded the Assessment Practising Certificate (APC) which means that I am qualified to assess literacy difficulties and diagnose dyslexia when it is present.
LOVE LEARNING LITERACY was born!
“Over the ten-week course, Vee has assessed for gaps in my son’s learning and structured the lessons to scaffold around these gaps. At the same time, she tailored the lessons to his interests so he enjoyed every session.”
